Ornate label inside front cover referencing this book as a prize from  the School Board of London. There is a previous owner's inscription above this. In addition on the verso of the title page there is a stamp confirming this is a prize, dated 1897. There are eight illustrations by W.H.Overend and one map and two battle plans. The book has light toning and scattered foxing throughout
