The Tour of Doctor Syntax, in Search of the Picturesque: a Poem.
 
This was written by William Combe and illustrated by Thomas Rowlandson.  The illustrations are hand-coloured. The book is undated but presumed to be from 1813 and is a fourth edition. It is rebound in modern brown cloth with some soiling and of course new end-papers with a very good, tight binding. The book has light browning throughout with light foxing. The foxing is more apparent on the preliminaries. The colour illustrations are still bright and clean with some light browning on the clear margins.
 
The book had previously been published in a magazine as "The Schoolmaster's Tour". This was a satirical poem with accompanying amusing illustrations.
