The Spirit of Praise is a 'Collection of Hymns Old and New'. It was published by Warne & co. circa 1870. The book was engraved and printed by the Dalziel brothers.
It is distinguished by a truly stunning binding. It is cloth with bevelled edges. There is a deep blue background with gilt decorations and lettering. There is white background to the centre . Both front and back covers have the same features. There is light wear to the covers with the gilt being a little less bright on the spine. The text-block edges are gilt.
The front paste-down has the armorial name-plate of Robin de Beaumont an important collector of Victorian books who died in 2023.
There is some foxing to the blank preliminaries and the rest of the book is quite clean with a tight binding. A very good plus copy.
