The Rose Garden of Persia by Louisa Stuart Costello. A first edition, published by Longman,Brown,Green and Longmans in 1845.Bound in leather with gilt decoration to both covers and raised bands, decorations and the title and date on the spine. Probable new end-papers with some brown tape added to the hinge as seen in the photo. The name-plate on the front paste-down is of some interest. It is for James Fraser Gluck a well known book collector in the nineteenth century in the U.S. He had some significant connections with Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens). The cover and spine show some slight wear only. The colour illustrations in the book are bright and the pages are clean. a very good copy.
