This was published by Madonald and Co., in London. It is a hard-cover in a dust-wrapper. The book is a classic Australian novel .It was semi-autobiographical about a boy growing up in a small Australian country town with all the associated changes from the second world war and post-war years.
 
The cover has wear and chips with a area of staining on the base of the spine.There is a previous owner's name crossed out on the front paste-down. There is spotting on the front edge of the text-block. The book is price-clipped and there is a small area cut out from the top of an early blank page which presumably had a name on it. The pages are clean and the binding is tight.
