The Holy Bible containing the Old and New Testaments.Illustrated by a selection from Raphael's pictures in the Vatican. These have been adapted and drawn on wood by Robert Dudley. Published by Ward and Lock in 1864. The cover is in relievo leather and was thought to have been designed by Owen Jones. This copy has a couple of special features. There is brass edging on the front and rear of the cover along with a brass clasp. Secondly the front-paste-down has a dated (1868) gift certificate attached to  a Mr John Alston. 
The front cover is darker than the rear cover and spine and presumable relates to the way the book had been stored. The spine has been professionly rebacked. Otherwise, the cover and spine and brass edging show some light wear but are in very good condition.There is a small strip of dark tape over the front and rear gutters. The marbled end-papers are in very good condition. The text-block edges are gilt. There is some slight creasing and soiling to the early pages and on the back of some illustrations there is some foxing. The general text pages are very clean. There is some light foxing on some of the illustrations.The binding is firm. Overall a very good copy.
