Parables and Tales by Thomas Gordon Hake. Illustrations by Arthur Hughes and cover by Dante Gabriel Rossetti.Published by Chapman and Hall as a first edition in1872. In the first year of publication there were two versions which were the same other than the cover. This far more ornate version is much rarer. The green, cloth cover with rich gilding is illustrated with gilded lettering on the spine. There is some occasional slight bubbling of the cloth slightly more obvious on the back. Theris some light edge wear to the covers. The text-block egdes are also gilt. There is some slight staining visible on the bottom of the pages up to page 15 and visible in photos 3 and 5. This is also apparent on the rear end-papers. There are advertisements at the back. The pages and illustrations are otherwise very clean. The binding is tight. This is a very good copy.
