Our Native Songsters by Anne Pratt. This is in a brown cloth cover with some embossing decoration and a gilt bird on the front. The spine has gilt decorations and the title. The front cover and gilt show light wear. The spine also shows light wear with some losses of the brown colouration (see photo) on the spine. There is a previous owner's name on the front paste-down. There is light foxing scattered throughout. Both hinges have some discrete and colour matched reinforcing tape. The binding is tight.
 
A feature of this book are the still bright hand-painted coloured images of which there are many.
 
Dating this book is interesting. It was published by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge and contains no date. A clue to its publication is the reference to other books published by Anne Pratt 
under her name on the title page. Only one other book is mentioned i.e. "Wild Flowers". As such I believe this is a first edition c. 1852 and is quite uncommon.
