This is quite a charming book. It is a collection of sketches that describing rural and urban life in Northern Italy. It makes for a pleasant read complimented by the binding and the illustrations by Randolph Caldecott.
 
The cover is 3/4 leather with marbled paper on the boards. There is gilt edging to the boards. The spine has 5 raised bands with gilt lettering and decorations. The covers show light wear, in particular to the edges. The end-papers are marbled.The delightful illustrations are hand-coloured. The top of the text-block edge is gilt. There is part of an old sticker on an early blank page. The pages show some light browning at the edges.
 
 It is in very good plus condition.
