Missionary Travels and Researches in South Africa by David Livingstone.
 
This was published by John Murray in 1857. This is a first edition, second issue with ads at the back from November, 1857. It has a brown cloth cover with some wear and scattered cracking to the hinges which are holding. There is a previous book-seller's name on the  front paste-down There is a gift inscription dated 1870 on the following blank page. All maps and fold-out illustration (in photo above) are present including a  map in a pocket at the back. The pages show some very light scattered foxing only.
 
This book was an historically important account of Livingstone's travel and observation in Africa. It is not always remembered that he used this book also as a platform to expose slavery in Africa.
 
Other than the cracking mentioned earlier, this is a very good copy.
