Herodias by Gustave Flaubert, Eragny Press, 1901

This is a special book. It was one of 200 copies released from a printing of 226. This book is "unopened", in other word, the paper folds at the top are still intact. The book was printed by Eragny Press which was owned by Lucien Pissarro, the son of Camille Pissarro, the painter. With his wife, Esther, there is a wood-engraved frontspiece, borders and initials. Furthermore, It was printed in Charles Ricketts's custom "Vale type" font on beautiful, heavy Arnold's handmade paper. The book is written in French.

The condition is very good to near fine. There is minimal soiling on the linen spine. The label with the title and author on it is present. The blue boards show minimal soiling. The top of the text block shows some soiling. There is some very slight scattered spotting more obvious on the blanks. There is a loose name-plate at the front titled  Walter W. Stone, a well known Australian book-collector from the twentieth century.
