A Woman's Journey Round the World, from Vienna to Brazil, Chili, Tahiti, China, Hindostan, Persia and Asia Minor.

This was written by Ida Pfeiffer and translated from the German. It was published by the Office of the National Illustrated Library (no date) but 1852 and  printed by Henry Viztelly. This was the first English edition.

The cover is a drab green cloth with blind blocked designs and gilt lettering and decorations on the spine. There is some light wear and soiling with bumped edges. There is a binder's ticket on the rear paste-down from Leighton Son and Hodge. The plates were from drawings by Birket Foster . While the printer is named as Henry Viztelly he was known to farm out work to Edmund Evans. There is light browning to the slightly stiff pages but they are remarkably clean. There is the usual discolouration to the front and rear free pages. There are some light ?pencil marks to the rear paste-down and evidence of a probable previous name-plate to the front paste-down. The binding is tight.

This was from one of the first female chroniclers of world travel. Overall a very good copy.
