A Naturalist's Rambles on the Devonshire Coast by Philip Gosse.
 
This was published by John Van Voorst in 1853. It is a first edition.
 
The book has a brown, embossed, cloth covered book. The spine has slightly faded gilt lettering. The cover shows some wear and fading with slightly bumped corners  and to the top and bottom of the spine. Both gutters are cracked and the hinges are tender. The book shows light scattered browning and some scattered foxing. There are a few small closed tears on the index pages. A number of the illustrations are hand coloured all of which are present. There are some very old scattered library stamps through the book saying "Australian Subscription Library
1926"
 
Gosse was essentially a marine biologist and naturalist. He produced this book after spending many months at the coast of Devon.
