A House of Pomegranates by Oscar Wilde.

 

This was published by Methuen in 1915 as the first illustrated edition. It is beautifully illustrated by Jessie M. King and is considered some of her best work.

 

This is a a blue cloth copy with yellow lettering and illustrations to the covers and spine. The cover shows some light wear only. The end-papers are illustrated with some foxing to the free-front page only (see the photograph). There is an inscription on the verso if the free-front page. The top of the text-block is gilt and the other sides are rough-cut. There is some light scattered foxing through the book. The tipped-in illustrations are vivid and clean and complete. The binding is tight.

 

There are 16 tipped-in plates. These are illustrations for Wilde's collections of fairy tales. The quarto book comes in a slip-case and is in very good plus condition.
