A Booke of Christmas Carols, Illuminated from Ancient Manuscripts in the British Museum.

These were selected and arranged by Joseph Cundall. They were drawn and lithographed by John Brandard. They were printed in colours by Mssrs. M & N. Hanart.  and printed with type by Charles Whittingham. There was no date but it was believed to be published 1845. It is an illuminated gift book.

The cover is designed in the French Romantic style. It is an embossed binding with a central flower on a cream background. Surrounding it are motifs in blue and gold against a cream background. There are 28 full age chromolithographed plates on heavy card.

The cover shows minimal soiling to the cream sections and light wear to the edges. There is a little more wear to the spine and its edges with four transverse creases. The front paste-down has a previous owner's name plate on it and on the free-front page there is a small ticket saying "take care". There is a small loss to the edge of the free-front page. The rear paste down has a Remant and Evans stamp. The text-block edges are gilt. There is some light browning to the page edges and the illustrations and text are clean and bright. The binding is firm.

Cundall published a number of small illuminated books. This is a very good plus example.
