1895, Ormond a Tale by Maria Edgeworth, illustrated by Carl Schloesser.

This was one of Macmillan's famous "Cranford" series books. They featured spectacular gold covers as this book has with an Art Nouveau design by Albert Angus Turbayne It is in green cloth with gold lettering and decorations to the front cover and spine. The text block edges are all gilt as well. This particular story was originally printed in 1817 and is a coming of age story set in Ireland and Paris.

The gilt on this cover is particularly bright and the cover otherwise shows minimal wear. The end-papers are delightful with yellow peacock designs. The binding is tight. The pages are very clean with the odd small area of foxing. A very good copy.
